News that won't necessarily be disappointing to some downtowners, the two-year old Macy's at Ernst & Young Plaza (at 7th + Fig Plaza) is closing, according to Macy's executives, who announced today that 11 Macy's stores nationwide would close.
A former Robinsons May store, the Macy's opened in 2006 just blocks from that other downtown Macy's at 7th and Flower. (Yes, the two Macy's are literally one block apart. And it's debatable which Macy's is better). An executive at Brookfield Properties, which owns the 7th + Fig plaza, tells Blogdowntown that "large retail users" are already expressing interest. (Suggestion: We all know that downtowners would love a Whole Foods in the space.) But let's get to the important info, shall we? The final clearance sale at the store starts next week, according to KTLA. [Via flickr user Tortuga One]
