DWR toasted its new Tools For Living outpost, connected to its Santa Monica store, with gingery champagne cocktails, artisan Compartes Chocolatier truffles, ginger candy, wine, cheese and plenty of merriment. We heard from DWR's PR team that the San Francisco-based design company doesn't have plans slated to open Tools For Living beyond NYC and Santa Monica quite yet, but is working on a potential pop-up shop in Miami. Measured growth seems to be DWR's motto, "especially in this economy," PR Manager Kimberly Oliver noted.
When we popped over to the furniture section with an eye on a gorgeous $2,000-plus walnut oval table, we were reminded that part of the genius of the new Tools For Living section is its comparatively lower prices to all the other wares. For some, the cost will still feel outrageous, but for others, it's worth the investment to pay $25 for something as mundane as a set of 12 pencils because they just look so good. And because you can leave with something, if not the Saarinen Tulip Stool.
