DWR's new Tools for Living store, which connects to its existing Santa Monica shop at 332 Santa Monica Bouelvard, opens tomorrow. We sent a Racked correspondent to the preview this morning to scope it out and take tons of photos. Our reporter's verdict below:
There's a vast variety of products from outdoor to kitchen items to desk/stationery. Classic, low-tech toys for the kids. A huge nod to old-school, affordable design classics such as a Stanley thermos and flask, metal ice cream scoops and wall-mounted bottle openers.
It's pretty pricey, and we don't know how well it works, but the Jan Hoekstra's Cookware looks amazing in person. Obviously, the location is great with tons of foot traffic. Probably a half dozen people came in off the street during our time at the preview alone and had to be told it wasn't opening until tomorrow. It would be great if DWR carved out space in all of its stores for a Tools for Living section, even if not so extensive.
