Rackage: Eden's Green Closet on Abbot Kinney
Rackage is a look inside recently-opened stores around town. Today, let's look inside Eden's Green Closet in Venice.
Opened just about a month, Eden's Green Closet owner Emily Blakeney is really pleased with the response from the Abbot Kinney community. "We've already had at least 12 repeat customers," she told Racked. What she's referring to specifically is customers that have come in to hand over their kids' gently worn clothing for either 35% of retail value in cash or 50% in store credit. Though half of the infant/kids boutique is devoted to organic sustainable lines, such as Fig, Sprout, Pixel Organics, as well as TruKid sunscreen, the other half is used clothing. When we browsed the racks, it took us a moment to notice the apparel had been worn, especially since some items still have the tags attached.
Blakeney said that when she had a child, she was lucky that she had hand-me-downs, but "wanted to provide something for people without that kind of access." It was also a reaction to our culture of consumerism, which she feels has gotten out of hand. We also spotted used Bugaboos and other premium strollers at more manageable prices. All in all, a great idea and service.
