Michael Segal, the managing partner of Cali retail pioneer Fred Segal and the son of its founder, has (along with his business associates) sold the worldwide rights to Fred Segal's very valuable brand to NY-based company Sandow Media. What that means, according to WWD: "The acquisition includes the rights to Fred Segal's intellectual property, new retail stores worldwide, the development of a new e-commerce platform and the creation of Fred Segal-branded apparel and products."
Sandow Media is already planning Fred Segal locations for New York, London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and Shanghai and a Fred Segal-branded apparel line is in the works, with cosmetics, accessories and decor to follow. They promise that the Melrose Ave and Santa Monica locations will remain unchanged.
